I Am In Love With This Yarn!!!

It's that new yarn I bought that is hand dyed with cashmere and angora in it. Such nice yarn. I've been knitting the gloves and working with clay this week. That's it. Not much to show for it yet, but I have been busy.

And I thought I would show you the photo from Jason's trip to Maine. This would be the white water rafting. Notice Rambo the rafting guide? LOL hhhmm, I think he knew his picture was being taken. And, notice how there are only two intelligent men on the trip wearing helmets and that my son and Molly's boyfriend Dave are not the two? Jason said that only two people fell out and that they were able to get them back in the raft right away. That's nice. LOL

We have some crazy storm coming up the east coast today and the rain will be here soon, so I think I will sit outside while I still can and get more of these gloves finished. I hope you are having a nice week.

The Calm Before The Storm...

I made the giant cupcakes this morning. I made a double amount of cake and was able to get 18 giant cupcakes out of it. Nine for the party... and just enough icing to make nine for me! :O) I'll have to remember to double the icing next time - I almost didn't have enough.

The girls arrived and got right to work decorating their ice cream bowls.
Then it was time to clean up and have some cake and ice cream!
It was a very happy day!

Isn't it glorious?!
I mean really - have you ever seen such a gorgeously blue cake in your life? LOLI was just told that this is the best birthday ever! Now lets just hope her party on Friday goes well! I'm a little nervous about 8 little girls glazing ice cream bowls in my kitchen. They're cute little bowls though aren't they?

10 Years Ago Today...

Kellie arrived on the scene!
I made a cake today to celebrate and in my regular fashion the inside of this cake is a yellow cake but it has been dyed as blue as that icing! :O) yum right? LOL
but that brings me to what I wanted to tell you. DON'T buy this icing for decorating your cake!
ugh! I didn't feel like making my own icing and getting the decorator bags out and the tips and all that so when I saw this new product in the store I thought oh absolutely! Well, it's hard to work with, the green came out kind of oily at first. I will never buy this stuff again! EVER! This is really surprising to me because I love love love Betty Crocker! but, this is not a good thing!

I Was Distracted...

So instead of glazing I was more in the mood for working with needle and thread. Mark and I have been married for 20 years so I decided to make this little compact kind of thing.
I did all of the hand stitching and beading before I assembled it and that caused me some issues when I was doing the zigzag around the edge.
This is a very old photo of us from about 11 years ago!
the beads kept getting in the way of the presser foot and it was difficult to get a smooth stitch. I made each piece like a little quilt with batting between two pieces of fabric. So trying to sew through 6 layers of fabric and those beads getting in the way make it a bit tricky but I like how it turned out.

The cake on the front has some Swarovski crystals. Those 3 dark purple flower crystals are my favorite - they are really expensive so I don't have many but I thought this little keepsake was the perfect place to use them.
I also used one of my buttons for the closure. It was a fun project to do yesterday. I'm thinking about making them to order on etsy. Maybe with a place for a photo on each side instead of the mirror? Or it might be cute in a baby theme with a photo of baby on one side and the birth information on the other? What do you think? Honestly, do you think that's a good idea? I'd appreciate your feedback on it. I don't want to make a bunch of these if I'm the only one who likes it! LOL

Rainy day here today - good day for cleaning and glazing I'm thinkin'.

My New Earrings and Etsy

I love these earrings!I finally put the earring wires on them and have been wearing them ever since! They are so light you can't even feel them. I'm glazing the rest of the buttons, pendants, and earrings today and hopefully will have them fired and ready to list by Monday. I listed a lot of items last night and this morning in both of my etsy shops and am just waiting for a big order of jewelry findings to arrive (hopefully by Friday) so that I can get the earrings and pendants finished and listed.

The weather has been so pretty the last few days that it's hard to not just sit outside and enjoy it. I hope you are having a nice week, too.

It's A Beautiful Day - Just Like That Day.

Molly mentioned that today is her friends little sisters birthday. I felt sorry for her. What an awful day for a birthday. Like everyone else, I remember every detail from 2001. Jason and Molly were in elementary school and I had just come in from talking to my neighbors and Mark called. It was 9:05 AM and we really didn't realize just how bad it was going to get. I was meeting my mother at the mall to buy shoes for Kellie and Ryan. She had already left so I didn't have a choice - I had to meet her. I didn't want to go, as I drove down 95 I was listening to the news and the Pentagon was hit and then the tower came down and I just kept thinking - all of these terrible things are happening all around me - what am I doing heading South on 95! What am I doing heading to a Mall! When I got to the mall I told my mother I thought we should go home. They were talking about shutting down 95 and closing schools. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get back to the house in time for Jason and Molly.

I remember how scared everyone was. We are only 3 hours from New York, an hour and a half from Philadelphia, 30 minutes from Baltimore City, and an hour and a half from Washington DC. We are 20 minutes from a large military base and 20 minutes from the hydroelectric power plant. We are surrounded by all kinds of perfect targets. I knew I wouldn't be seeing Mark any time soon. His job requires him to be at work when there is any kind of disaster. They were talking about an early dismissal in the schools so I went over and picked Jason and Molly up. I just kept thinking, if this is going to get worse I want to at least have my children with me. And I just sat in front of the television the entire day and night. I just sat there.

Later I learned that my friend/neighbor had worked on something like the 98 Th floor of one of the towers before she moved to our neighborhood and she knew many of her old coworkers had died. I had worked with a young woman who was on the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. I kept thinking about the last time I had had lunch with her - how young she was - how awful it must have been for her. Many of our friends who are firefighters were heading to New York to help. Ryan who was only 3 at the time kept playing with his toy airplanes smashing them into blocks not understanding what all this was about. A friends husband had been on his way to New York that morning for a meeting at one of the towers but it was changed to another date at the last minute. It seemed like everyone knew someone. I didn't even know how to keep it from my kids at the time - it was so all consuming. Molly and Jason remember it all, but Ryan does not - he only knows what he has seen and read since.

And now we have that nut job in Florida - it scares me.

Do You Like Oatmeal Cookies?

I do and when I saw this Whole Grain Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Cookie Bars recipe I just had to make them right away. I didn't have white whole wheat flour so I used regular whole wheat flour. They are really easy to make and really good. Jason asked me to make them every few days, but considering the fact that it's in a 9 x 13 inch pan and his first piece was 3 x 9 inches I don't think these will last a few days! LOL
Try them. We like them.

Don't you just love when...

You take the time to make a yummy apple pie and a big dinner for your family...and just as I'm putting the pork roast into the oven...Molly called. Is it okay if I don't eat dinner at home? NO!!! I made an apple pie and a roast and you better be here! She just laughed because she knows I'm a pushover about things like that when she wants to stay after at school - and this was for drama and I don't want to say no to school stuff. So I told her if she would rather have nasty old pizza at school with her friends than my yummy dinner so be it, but she can't have any pie because I'm going to make sure that we eat it all before she gets home! brat.

Sheesh! You gotta' be kidding me!

Kellie's birthday is on the 20 Th of this month. She wanted to go to Amazing Glaze to have her party. It's one of those places where you pick a bisque ware item and you paint it with glaze and they fire it for you etc... Anyway, I went in today to find out how much they charge and what is included....

You must have a minimum of 6 kids. They provide a selection of SMALL items for the kids to choose from. They provide ice cream from the local dairy. All this fabulousness for only $20.00 a kid!!!! I'm thinkin' .... yeah. that's not going to happen. By the time I do the goodie bags for the kids it will be more like a wedding reception than a birthday party!

So...I came back home and went online to look at bisque ware. I can get a case of six 3 1/4 x 6 3/4 inch ice cream cone boxes at a price for $10.50. Or six flower boxes that are 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 x 2 inches for $12.50 or even six big mugs for $9.00! They have really cute ice cream dishes too. So much to choose from - So, party here. They can use my glaze and I'll just fire them myself. The store was taking 2 weeks for delivery anyway, I could fire one or two a day and still be finished much quicker than that! And with the party here I can have a cake with the ice cream and maybe even pizza and a Pink Cupcake Pinata and then I found this Ice Cream PiƱata Tutorial!

A Sample Of The Glazed Pieces

I hope you had a nice 3 day weekend. We spent yesterday at my sisters with the entire family to celebrate Labor Day, but also my Dad's 88Th birthday. It was such a beautiful day. This is the view from her house. It's so pretty.I finished glazing some of the clay. I'm pretty happy with them, but when I glaze the rest I'm going to do three coats of glaze instead of just two. I think they would look better with that extra coat. If you click on the photos you can see the colors of the glazes a lot better.
These are my favorite buttons from this batch...

Some pendants....
I love these turtles. I made a bunch because I wanted to see what each glaze would look like. My favorite is the one on the far right. Some earrings...This I'm going to make into a beaded piece...I hate the glaze on these. They definitely need at least one more coat.
Almost all of these pieces are from my antique button collection, but on a few I used some tools to make patterns and a few others are from rubber stamps.
