Ugh! A Party.

This is a greeting card I purchased for myself - you know how I love Donkeys.
Just popping in to say have a great weekend. The Maryland Sheep And Wool Festival is this weekend so that is were I will be all day tomorrow. For now I'm going alone - My niece might be meeting me there but I haven't heard from her yet.
I'm really cranky today. Molly invited 6 of her friends to come over for dinner, hot tub, movie/wii tonight to celebrate her birthday and I just don't feel like dealing with them. I will not torture you with my bad mood, but I hope your Friday is better than mine. I'm off to make the cake - she picked a giant cupcake cake pan and I need to clean again for the party. I don't know why I bothered cleaning on Monday. It just has to be done again today which is adding to my crankiness! I really don't want a bunch of teenagers here tonight - does that make me a bad mother?

Moving Right Along...

Wednesday was a much more productive day. I finished the stitching on every one of these blocks! Now I'm going to embellish them with buttons and beads and maybe a little applique.

Have a great day!

Not. I spent all afternoon yesterday stitching one of my velvet blocks and then...ripping it all back out because I didn't like it - too much stitching didn't look good. It lost it's poofiness. And I hate how you can see the little holes where the stitches had been. I'm hoping that will go away when I'm finished. So, I'm back to the beginning on this.

And Jason...Jason, Jason, Jason. He's away at the nature camp thing working as a counselor. It's 47 degrees in the evening. Did he take any pants? No. His day is filled with hiking in the woods, walking through streams, general camping type stuff. Did he take hiking boots? No. He makes me crazy. If I ask any questions about his packing (or anything for that matter) I get the attitude - you know, he's 18 - that makes him oh so intelligent - clearly. So there he is in the woods freezing in shorts and hiking without boots.

Busy Week Last Week

After watching teesha's Free Fabric Journal Workshop Videos I immediately wanted to make some.Very fun, but my corners are very wonky.I made these with my hand dyed velvet.Very fun. I'm going to do the stitching on the blocks this week. I still don't know what I'm going to use them for. I liked her bag and her journal covers and I loved her banner and those faces. Pretty much loved all of it.
Mark is home again this week - he wont see the doctor till next Monday. He hasn't left the house since the surgery. Definitely hoping the doctor will let him go back to work next week. We shall see. We have been spending every morning on the deck reading and every afternoon watching MadMen seasons 1 and 2. This week we start season 3. Only problem with watching MadMen is that we are craving a martini at 3 o'clock in the afternoon! We've had lots of together time these past five weeks - which I must say has been nice this time. We've actually been having fun together - unlike last time when he made me crazy :O). I think that fact that it's spring has made all the difference. Last time it was winter so we were truly stuck in the house. Being able to sit outside makes all the difference in the world. I think the funniest thing was this bit of conversation...

Mark: It's 6:10 do you plan to start dinner soon?
Me: Ooooooh! I just got to the duel!
Mark: LOL. I don't even want to know what trash you are reading!

Molly's play was Friday and Saturday night. They did Little Women (Molly played Amy in the Yellow dress)A lot of dialogue - they all did a fantastic job!

And Sunday (4/25) was Molly's 17Th birthday! She wanted a piano, but we can't fit a piano in our house right now so we bought her a keyboard (much easier to store when not in use). It has 88 weighted keys which makes it much nicer than the one she had. There was a little trouble when we shoved all of Kellie's doll house stuff off to the side (sorry Kellie) so she could open it. Then she realized that she had a towel on her head and I was taking photos...She was so pleased that I continued to snap away with the camera. She and Ryan had fun playing songs together. Meanwhile Kellie was planning her trip to Disney. We aren't going until 2011 but she wants to be prepared. She wants to make sure we go back to all of her favorite places. I'm ready for the new week. Jason will be gone all week - he is going to be a counselor for a nature camp. He will be with two of his friends so that should be fun. Molly had planned to be a counselor this week too, but she is going in May now.

So that brings us to today. Rain, definitely need to clean this house TODAY!!! All of that reading and MadMen watching has taken a toll on the house. Hoping to finish early so that I can get back to the stitching this afternoon - MadMen Season 3 starts today at our house. Happy Monday friends!

New Project, No Love Yet.

I'm working on a new project at the moment. This bird was going to be part of it...but I don't like the way it's looking so I'm not going to finish this one...
I love the wings though...So I'm going to make another one today and hope for better results. I hope you are having a great Monday.

Still Hooking...

I would be finished this thing if I would just stop ripping stuff out! I'm on the last bit now though so I should finish this today. I hope so because I'm ready to move on to something else. I have a very short attention span.

Something New To Work On...

Last night I decided to play around with some rug hooking. I cut a 15 inch square of burlap, did a really quick sketch, and then just jumped right in. It's very addictive. I ended up forcing myself to put it down at midnight.I'm using all kinds of stuff in this. Yarn, old cut up t-shirts, wool, etc. Just whatever. And this morning I cut a few hyacinths from my garden. They are my favorite spring flower. But I do love lilacs too. It's pretty much a toss up of which one I love more. And Molly loaded all of her photos from Disney. Can I just tell you how much I hate the new color guard uniform she has to wear!I think she's a cutie, but I think the uniforms are on the trashy side. She did too. I don't know who was in charge of that decision, but they need to rethink it.Here is a photo of all the band kids who went (It was around 105 kids) to Disney. The actual band is much larger. It's the largest high school band in our area. It's a rainy day here today so I think I will just do laundry and work on the little hooked rug thingy. Have a great day.

The Weekend...

I did go to the book fair. Made a few purchases. That was fun. I love the illustrations in these old books.
Kellie's school made the 6 o'clock news Friday night with the teachers kissing a cow. That was pretty funny. Word of advise...don't do a search for get some nasty images as a result - apparently there is a double meaning there. LOL a bit of a shock that was! :O) It's like when you aren't thinking and you do the abbreviated version of Dropping the sportinggoods part of that is a fatal mistake! In the five seconds of frantic closing of the images you will learn more about that human body part then you ever wanted to know! You'll be scarred for life. LOL

And poor poor Molly. Friday night they didn't get back to their rooms until almost 1AM. By the time she was able to get her shower it was after 2 AM and they had to be up at 6 AM to be in the parade in Magic Kingdom. Then they went all day at the park. She called from the bus at 9:15 PM to say they were leaving the park and on their way home. an hour later the kid directly behind her began suffering from food poisoning. And poor Molly gets car sick so being extremely over tired and having someone ill behind her was not a good thing at all. They finally made it home (17 hours later) at 4PM Sunday afternoon and both Molly and Jason were absolutely exhausted. They are home from school today to recover from their vacation which is nice because I missed them.

My Favorite One Yet...

Kellie is going to a birthday party tonight so she is giving the little girl this tic tac toe gameI think this might be my favorite one yet! I love the turtles. And you'll love this...I took Jason and Molly to the high school on Wednesday for their school trip to Disney. The school called yesterday saying that Jason was absent from school. I called this morning to let them know that it's extremely disconcerting to turn over your children to the school's care for a trip 5 states away for 5 days and have the school call saying they don't know where your son is...

There is an antique book fair this weekend that I'm thinking of going to - not sure I feel like driving there. Have a great weekend!

Oh To Be In Elementary School Again...

It was pretty exciting around here this morning...You see there was a contest at the elementary school ... First they determined the grade that raised the most money for the school. Then all the teachers from that grade have to kiss a cow! Next they determined the grade that raised the second highest amount of money. That grade would get front row seats to see the teachers kiss the cow. Well....The fifth grade teachers will be kissing a cow today and Kellie's grade gets front row seats to see it. Pretty darn exciting! Especially since the male teachers in fifth grade will be wearing bright red lipstick to do some cow kissin'! Kellie could hardly sleep for the excitement of it all! Oh the giggles every time she talked about it.

20 Years!

20 years ago today...Who are those young people?! We can't really celebrate our anniversary so Molly and Jason are doing it for us. They went out to breakfast together this morning and they are leaving for Disney this afternoon! brats! I'm still spinning spinning spinning. As soon as I have some yarn plied I'll show it to you.

Oh The Spinning...

I've been reading Dagmar's posts about all of her spinning adventures lately and it made me want to spin. It was all I could think about last week when I was getting ready for Easter so this week I have finally been able to get to the spinning.
I don't remember what this roving is other than it's a silk blend. I bought it at sheep and wool two years ago and it doesn't have a label with it. It feels amazing though and I love the colors in it. I can't wait to ply it to see how it changes. I think that's what I love most about spinning. You really don't know what you are going to get until you ply it.

That is what I'm going to be working on today. It's beautiful outside again today with all of the trees blooming, but it's going to be 90 degrees! ugh...what happened to spring?!
Have a great day!

On To A New Week...

Easter was fun. The kids did their thing...
Jason didn't feel like participating in the egg dying this year. He's was being...18 and too cool to be bothered with it all.

Easter was really fun. My family came, so it was all 24 of us. I was actually a little hoarse this morning from the laughing. It was good. Howard was feeling the holiday hangover today...

Oy the day I had! with the laughing, and the eating, and the playing...
Of course no holiday would be complete without the emergency visit to the vet with Howard. He woke up on Saturday morning with a sore over his eye that looked all red and swollen and I was afraid to wait and see with it. So my holiday check list looked like this...
eggs dyed...check
house clean...check
emergency vet visit...check
half of this weeks grocery money spent at vet...check

It was a great weekend all around. I was exhausted today. I didn't do anything but take Mark to the doctor and read. I didn't have the energy for anything else. Jason and Molly are getting ready for their big band trip to Disney this week. I'm a little freaked about the idea of them on a bus to Florida, but they are going to have such a great time. They are recording a song for Disney to go with some film (we don't know what yet) on Friday, and on Saturday they will be marching in Magic Kingdom. The rest of the time they get to have fun at the parks. I'm a little bummed that they leave on Wednesday the 7Th. That is our 20Th wedding anniversary but I think they would rather skip the cake and go to Disney.

Mark had all 21 staples removed from his incision this morning...that's fun. His type A personality is having a tad bit of trouble with the not feeling so great and not being able to do a darn thing all day. He's pretty much reached his limit in the patience department. You know, it's been 12 days - enough already. And he can't do a darn thing until he sees the doctor at the 6 week appointment. We are now entering the fun stage of the recovery process...the big cranky bored man stage. good good times a comin'. :O)
