Thank God For Monday!

The turkey's been annihilated...
the dirty dishes and pots...
all washed and put away.

Howard got up Saturday morning limping and his right leg was really really swollen. So I called the vet...emergency visit...3 x-rays...they haven't a clue what he did, but it looks like a muscle injury. You can't really see it in this photo, but his leg is really swollen between the paw and that first joint. So for the next week the doctor wants Howard to take some meds and he needs to take it easy...
aaaah, yeah. I don't think that's going to be a problem. The dog sleeps 23 hours a day now.
poor Howard.

as for me...I am ready for some SOLITUDE!!! I love my kids, I love my husband, but boy oh boy do I need some ALONE time. So this morning it was here's your coffee, here's your lunch don't call me - I'll call you. Here's your lunch, and your lunch, and your lunch, and your lunch - there's the bus - don't let the door hit you on the way out! LOL just kidding. But, if you are looking for me today I'll be here ...
All Day! Happy Monday!

As Far As The Knitting...Very Productive Weekend! The Cleaning...Not So Much.

Well, it took 4 tries, but I finally finished the cowl for my mom. It still needs to be blocked.
and I finished one of the mug cozies. It also needs to be blocked. Just 5 more to go...
and I also started this cowl (for me)...
Unfortunately, my living room and dining room are still a mess and trust me...this has not gone unnoticed! :O) I really REALLY have to get to work on that. I'm not sure I'll be saying hi again this week - there's cleaning, grocery shopping, and food prepping to be done before Thursday so if I don't check back in...Happy Thanksgiving!

What I'm Doing Instead Of What I SHOULD Be Doing

So Thursday is Thanksgiving. My family is coming. The turkey is ordered. And the house needs to be cleaned. My dining room and living room are currently covered in my crafting supplies for current projects in the works, projects about to be in the works, and projects I haven't even come up with yet. So what I should be doing today is getting all of my crap put away...but yesterday I decided to make this for my mom for Christmas... so yesterday afternoon I asked Molly is she would like to go to the knitting store with me to get the yarn. Big mistake! Molly not only helped me with the 2 little balls of yarn for that cowl, but she also helped me do this...So here is what I'll be making...

This little jacket for Molly...(that she plans to wear for Thanksgiving!)
Isn't it cute...
with this...
and another one is this...(for me)
It's in this Noro book. It only takes 4 skeins for size small and 5 skeins for size medium. The books says 4 skein no matter what size, but Maggie the knitting store owner said she recommends getting 5 skeins for medium to make it a little longer. So for Molly's I'm using Noro Silk Garden in 292 and for mine I'm using Noro Silk Garden in 252. They said it is super easy and is a weekend project. We shall see.

For Jason (and maybe Ryan) I'm making this hat...
with 1 skein Lambs Pride Worsted in black (should be enough to make two - I think) and one skein of Noro Kureyon in 233. If I decide to make one for Ryan I'll have to get another skein of Noro.

And for others on my list I decided to make this...
I purchased a dark green ball of yarn too, but they forgot to put it in my bag so I have to run back to the store today and pick it up. I'm using Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash for this because chances are these are going to need washing at some point. I'm going to get a mug for each of them and then make one of these to fit it. I hope they like them.

And Molly who hasn't picked up knitting needles in like 6 years decided she needs a scarf so she picked this yarn to knit one for herself...
she is also using the Cascade 220 Superwash.

And what about the yarn for the project I WENT to the store for...
I decided to go with RY Classic Yarns Cashsoft DK in SH500. I wanted to do it in a pretty color, but I thought she would probably wear it more if it was cream and went with everything. And this yarn is so soft-I love it. So last night I sat down at 7:15pm, cast on 112 stitches to my circular needle and began. And 5 hours later I have this to show for it!
I started and ripped out THREE times! First I dropped a stitch and the pattern is so crazy that I couldn't figure out what stitch is was. Then I misread the pattern and instead of doing ssk, k, k, k2tog I did ssk, k, k, ssk! And I didn't realize it until well into it so out it all came AGAIN! And then try number three...I haven't knit from a chart in years and I forgot that you work a chart from the bottom up and what was I doing...working from the top down! Soooo......rip out again! So here I am today ready to give it another go! If this cowl doesn't come out right with this next attempt I'm going to switch to a back up pattern. Something really really easy. Crossing my fingers that the fourth time will be perfect--but it just may end with a lot of sobbing and some seriously inappropriate language for a mom of four! :O) Happy Friday friends.

A Scarf

I started knitting a scarf last night. I love the pattern, but I'm not sure I love the colors. That gold is bothering me but I'm going to keep on going with this because Molly said she likes it. If I love it, I'll keep it...If I don't love it it will become a gift! LOL just kidding.
this is the yarn I'm using. It's very soft. It's Noro Silk Garden Lite in color 2027
Yesterday I made these cookies from Randi - they are banana/blueberry breakfast cookies and they are really really good. We were eating them right out of the oven - yum. I have to admit that they didn't look so great - kind of lumpy and not so yummy but they did taste good.

Turkey In Felted Wool

Last night I sat down and made a little turkey sachet to hang in my house. It measures 4 3/4 inches x 4 3/4 inches. The front is felted wool and the back is a cotton plaid in fall colors. I filled it with Balsam Fir and it smells so good!
I tried to get a decent photo of it but this is as good as it gets...
I always like to finish with a beaded edge. It really makes a difference.
Today is open house for Kellie's school so I'm off to watch her in action. I hope you have a great day.

One of those days.

The play was really great. Really really long - like 3 hours long - but they did such a great job. Molly played Louisa and had several speaking lines and a lot of singing to do. awesome.

Today has been one of those days. Went to the grocery store where a dingbat of a woman rang up my food. Example: 2 loaves of bread in bag with what? oh, just a giant 4 pound jar of spaghetti sauce. Hmmm, says I. Don't you think that could be a problem? We certainly wouldn't want to smash the bread flat, would we? hhhhh. Then I'm driving off the parking lot and almost get in a wreck because this car came driving right across my path and never saw me coming. And who was driving the car....MY MOTHER!!! LOL. Then I get home and unload the 50 million bags of groceries and guess what....the check out lady from hell didn't give them all to me. She must have put one on the floor or something, because the roast chicken we are having for dinner...it's not here. Now I have to drive all the way back to the store to get it. ghaaaa.

But on the bright side...

Did you hear that terrible rumor going around that Snyder's of Hanover and the UTZ potato chip/pretzel company were merging??!!! Please Please Please say it isn't so! I HATE Snyder's products and I Love LOVE UTZ. Luckily the deal fell through so no one will be messing around with my potato chips or God forbid my pretzels.
I don't know what UTZ was thinking - you don't mess with perfection people!

Great Books For Little Girls-UPDATED

It's that time of year again...the fall school musical. Molly has been practicing every night until 10 pm - Last night she didn't call to be picked up until 11 pm - on a school night. She loves it, but it really takes a toll on her by the end of the week. She hasn't been home for dinner all week and she has been in school all day and then practicing 5 hours (6 hours last night) at night. They are doing The Sound Of Music this year. I'm looking forward to this one. I like the musicals. Tonight is opening night and then she has two shows tomorrow. Should be a good one.

Yesterday Kellie's school bus didn't bring her home until 4:30. We live less than a mile from the school and she gets out at 3:30! The school called at 4:10 and said that they had held all of the buses because of a "domestic incident". Hmmmm, that's what you want to hear.

Speaking of Kellie, she absolutely loves to read. She reads constantly and because of that she is a really good reader. Her favorite books at the moment are The Doll People series. They are for readers in the age group of 7-10. She got the first book for her birthday in September and the second book in October when she was home sick. Now she wants me to hurry and get the last one because she can't wait to read it. My mom has it to give her for Christmas - I'm not sure I can make her wait that long. In this house if they want books they get them. I will make them wait for toys and other things, but not books. I think reading is so important that if they are asking for a book I don't want to ever say no. Needless to say, she's a bit confused about why she is still asking (begging) for the book and I haven't bought it yet. Anyhoo, if you have/know a girl in the 7 - 10 age group these are great books.

I'm taking Howard to the vet this morning about the tongue. Poor Howard. I don't think he suspects a thing...It's not raining right now so I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't start until after the appointment. I don't want to relive this experience. I'll let you know what they say when I get back...'cause I know you're worried. :O)

****HOWARD UPDATE:
Well, after the doctor stopped laughing at Howard - and after she left the room to get two other doctors to laugh at Howard. They all discussed it (since they had never had a dog who can't keep his tongue in his mouth) they decided that it was no big deal. Just a case of exposure. Probably due to the change in seasons and us using the pellet stove last week so close to his sofa - dry heat and all that. The doctor started with "because giraffes spend all of their time with their tongues hanging out exposed to the elements...." Me: Are you comparing Howard to a giraffe? LOL Poor Howard - the humiliation of it all. And the tongue is certainly not causing any eating problems...he weighed in at 160.1 pounds! When I walked in the receptionists were all talking about how he looked like he has had a growth spurt since the last time they saw him in September - he definitely weighs more (10 pounds). They said he definitely looked taller too so I measured him when I got home and he's 37 inches to his shoulder - that's a three inch growth in height since the last time I measured him (last spring when he turned 2). So you can all relax - Howard is A-Okay! Have a great weekend.

Tryin' To Get It Done, and Oh HowwwwWord!

Sheesh! I haven't been alone in days! Between the kids having off from school last week and then Mark taking time off from work this week, I haven't had time to get near the computer to post a darn thing. I did finally finish the beading on this little quilt, got the binding on, and it's now hanging on the wall.
Last week Kellie had her sewing machine out and made a little mouse...
And I'm starting to get worried about Howard's tongue. (DARK in my house - this was taken about 8:15 am this morning!)
I've told you before how his tongue is always hanging out. Well, I've noticed lately that it's starting to look very strange...
See how dried and dark it's getting? (don't you just love those lips? They are so soft I just can't stand it!) Because I spend a considerable amount of time this close to Howard...I'm noticing how bad his tongue is starting to look on the end. Sometimes it turns a really dark purple-ish red color. And it's these darn mini dog teeth that he has clamped on his tongue all the time! How can such a huge dog have such itty bitty teeth?
This is really starting to worry me. I think he is cutting off the circulation to the tip of his tongue. This can't be a healthy thing. And the rain, wind, and mud outside from this storm coming up the east coast...out of control. Howard who we all know is afraid of ANY liquid coming from the sky hasn't gone to the bathroom in about 36 hours. I'm thinkin' that's not a good thing. If I force him out the door (bodily) he just stands there crying and shaking to come back in! Hhhh, between the tongue and the rain this dog is making me nuts!

And that darn Halloween Candy! I made sure I didn't buy any of my favorites so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat any of the extras. Apparently when faced with a bowl full of crappy candy I let my standards slip considerably. I started out my day with this...
Then when everyone had gone off to school I went with this...
I'm like one of those goofy people on some kind of kooky diet craze - Halloween candy and grapefruit - YES! Because I'm sure that that grapefruit wiped out all the bad stuff from the candy frenzy, right?

Anyway, I've decided that what I need to do today is make some yummy oatmeal cookies - because yummy oatmeal cookies with grapfruit will be just the thing. I also want to work on deciding what ornaments and other Christmas gifts to make. I really need to get working on that. So this morning in my dark gloomy house - while the cookies are baking - I'm going to drink more coffee and sketch some gift ideas. Hopefully this afternoon there will be quality taste testing of the cookies and some gift stitching action going on here. It's good to have a plan and an empty house to work in.

And Then I Saw The Wool...

So Cornelia and I were leaving the fabric store after she made a great purchase. And I say..."Did I tell you about the crochet woman? She makes the prettiest afghans! I want to make them but the wool would cost me like $210 ...." and Cornelia says "OH! I want to take you to this great yarn shop down the road okay?" Me: ABSOLUTELY! So much for my staying out of all yarn shops until my crochet obsession passes :O) And she was right - great little shop. But after cruising the main room where the yarn was I realized they didn't carry the Rowan yarn I wanted. Woo, that was a close call, but no impulse shopping today. But then Cornelia says "lets go upstairs." Should have said no. Should have stayed in the car. 'Cause this shop had T.H.E best supply of felted wool I have E.V.E.R seen. Oh my gosh! Wool of so many amazing patterns and colors all felted and just begging to go home with me! Just check out this fabulousness....

It was a small house with yarn on the first floor. The second floor had felted wool, wool for rug hooking - along with all the supplies for rug hooking, spinning wheels, and roving. It was such a great shop. I will definitely have to go back again. And for anyone anywhere near the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania, it was right off Rt 10 at 2827 Main Street in Morgantown, PA. It's called Olde Peddler Wools. Awesome shop. Then we went over to Lancaster for some lunch. Fun day as usual. Happy Tuesday!

Oh The Temptation Of Colorful Wool...

I was working on this throw again over the weekend.I'm working on it again to keep myself from making a stupid purchase! I am completely obsessed with the items this woman crochets! She makes me want to crochet! She makes me want to go spend money on wool to make stuff like this and this one - I mean really - just look at her stuff: Crochet - a set on Flickr. I was on line A LOT looking at wool to see how much it would cost ... mmm like $210...ahhh, no. That's not going to happen this close to Christmas. Especially since I know my track record with these things. The throw I'm knitting...yeah, it's been in the works for about 3 years. So am I going to spend $210 on MORE yarn....I don't think that would be such a great idea right now. But oh how I love her stuff!

So I'm going out with Cornelia today. A little fabric shopping - for her - I don't need anything right now so I'm just going to help her spend her money. I sure hope she doesn't plan to go to the yarn shop! That would not be a good thing - I must keep away from all yarn shops until this obsession with crochet passes. :O) Hope you are having a fun day and thanks for stopping by.
