Making Some Jewelry This Week...

This has been another crazy week! I can't believe it's Wednesday already. Jason and Molly are 16 months apart and I thought when they were little I was busy - sheeesh! It's craziness now. With all of the driving around picking up and dropping off I've used it as an excuse not to go near my bedroom walls (I don't want to move furniture and then have to leave before I have time to do anything - you know what I mean?) Instead I've been beading. I made this brooch...I used a vintage button that I love. It's a small brooch (1 3/4 inches) which is a very good thing because it's a little Elizabeth Taylor if you know what I mean. I do like the crystals around the edge.
and I think it looks pretty good on denim.
This other one is giving me some trouble. It's a pendant, but those little dark blue beads aren't true size 11's so they are throwing things off a bit.
I love the center though, it's a shell.
I'm going to work on it some more this morning. I am also going to try to get some other pendants finished. We'll see. I'm running like a nut again today.

The quilt show was really fun. I bought a little bit of fabric, but what I really loved was the booth with the hand dyed felted wool - my favorite thing - I really won't use any other kind of felt - it's just not as fabulous. I bought some scrumptious brights...
unfortunately, I lost her business card. dang. I don't think Cornelia bought anything from her, but I'm pretty sure she took a card - crossing my fingers on that.
Oh! And Kellie's birthday gifts arrived Friday - just in time for her birthday on Sunday! Sheesh, I was sweating that one! I'm glad it worked out. I can't believe she's 9! NINE! hhhh, I know - I say the same thing every time one of the kids has a birthday. It just boggles my mind.

I'm so ready for fall. I'm ready for leaves to turn, apples and pumpkins, and Halloween but it's 82 degrees again today!!!! Enough already!

New Brad Maker Thingy...

Have you seen this new gadget? It's for making your own brads. It has a paper punch for making custom paper brads
They come in three sizes
and I saw these stencils that I'm going to use to make brads with fabric (also in the three sizes) I hope it works (maybe some iron on stabilizer would help)
I love brads - I'm excited about this thing - I hope this works well.

I finished the cushions ... happy happy dance! So now I can move on to other things.
I went to Back to School night for Kellie and on each child's locker was a list of their goals for the year. Kellie's list included this goal:
To Not Get Angry When Someone Wakes Me Up For School In The Morning.

LOL! I guess that Someone would be me. I told you she isn't a morning person. She is the crankiest kid I've ever known. Sunday is Kellie's 9th birthday. I ordered her gifts last week and they aren't here yet!!! eeek. I hope they come Friday! If not, I guess I'll have to run to the store on Saturday and get her a mini gift to hold her over until they come - but I would suffer huge guilt over that.
And speaking of guilt....
Howard doesn't seem to be suffering any guilt from the recent murder. (taken with Iphone so not the best quality photos)

I wish I could be this relaxed!

I am going to have a good day Friday - it's the Pennsylvania quilt show and I'm going with my friends Cornelia and Lynn. That should be a lot of fun - really looking forward to it. Have a great weekend! Lets all channel Howard this weekend and really relax and let it all hang out. :O)

FrouFrouing Up The Kitchen...

Hello. I hope you are having a nice day. It's pretty here today but I'm stuck inside making cushions for my kitchen chairs. I'm not a big fan of this kind of sewing. But I'm sure I'll be very happy when they are finished. I made them so that they can be removed for washing and to replace the cushions when they get too flat over time. That's assuming that my kids don't trash them before they have a chance to get flat! Lets hope they last that long.
I've finished three and have four to go (six for the table and one for the desk). Now that I've worked out all the problems that I was having with this yesterday I'm moving right along. No ripping out seams today - hooray! Mark wanted to know why I was starting this before I was finished with our bedroom --- because if I didn't get away from that hell for a project I was going to kill someone! I'll be getting back to it next week - ugh.

Such A Brave Dog

I know, you don't want to hear any more about the dog! but I can't help it. I took Howard to the vet today because he has a red lump on his neck that I needed to have checked (has nothing to do with the ground hog). Unfortunately it was raining...really sideways end of the world raining. And did I mention that Howard is afraid of rain? It's just one of his many many phobias. So there I was in the pouring rain trying to pull Howard - Howard the 156.3 pound dog - out of the truck. Apparently I was quite entertaining because after about 5 minutes of battle one of the receptionists came out to laugh at me and to give me an umbrella. I appreciated the offer of an umbrella, but honestly, I looked like I had gone for a swim so it really was useless at that point. I didn't know she was coming to help until I heard someone behind me yell "HOWARD! Is that you you stupid dog? LOL So we decided that if she opened the other door and pushed while I pulled we might just get him out of the truck. Three pushes and he gave in. Lots of cheers for Howard. How can a dog who is afraid of E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G be brave enough to attack a ground hog?! Boggles the mind. He has quite a reputation at the vet. They love him because he is so big, so sweet, and so stupid. He's like a celebrity at that office. He left the office in a hurry - raining or not he wanted out of there - but back at home in our driveway he struggled to overcome his fear again. Finally deciding that getting wet was worth it to get back to his big comfy couch. So, lesson learned - don't force Howard to go out in the rain unless you want to get very very wet.

Howard The Murderer

I was in my kitchen. I heard this really strange sound and knowing that we have a ground hog living in our back yard I was worried that he was about to fight with Howard. I ran over and asked the kids if the dog was out...aahhh, I don't know. I don't think so. I look out the window and I don't see anything and I no longer hear the noise so I'm thinking it wasn't anything. Then Jason says Oh My GOD! Howard just walked up on the deck with a giant ground hog in his mouth! He dropped it on the deck and it's just laying there...but it's still alive! I think Howard shook it because it seemed to be paralyzed and couldn't move it's back legs.

I didn't know what to do! I didn't want to go near it because it was injured and may have rabies. I called Animal Control but they were already closed and their message said that if a dog or cat were injured to call the sheriff. Well, Howard is fine but I didn't know what to do with the animal so I called the sheriff. They sent an officer to our house and just before he arrived it had died. He said if it had still been alive he would have shot it. Lovely. So he and Jason scooped it up with shovels and we put it in a garbage bag but the officer said to put it in our trash can!!! uuuugh. Thank goodness Friday is trash pickup day for us. It was a huge ground hog - it was really heavy - at least 10 or 12 pounds. I just can't believe Howard did it! It was really sad and gross and stressful.

mmm, dating and brothers...God help us.

Hi friends. I know I've kind of fallen off the blog radar lately. I didn't think you wanted to see more photos of drywall/wallpaper destruction. I've completely destroyed my bedroom. This is going to be a long term project since I have 4 bedrooms to do.

Jason is not doing well with the Molly and the boyfriend situation. Last night was movie night (an early movie night since it was a school night). Molly, Jason, boyfriend, and another friend all watched a movie. 9PM Molly was walking boyfriend out.
Jason comes in - "what time is it?"
Me: around 9.
Jason: watch! I swear it will be 10 minutes before she comes back in!
Me: lol, Jason, the windows are open I can hear her out there talking and laughing - it's fine.
Jason: It will be 10 minutes! You watch! I'm telling you last time it was 10 MINUTES!
Me: lol, why are you timing your sister? Leave her alone. It's fine.
Jason: IT'S FREAKING ME OUT! Sometimes at work I'll be like - uuuuuuugh. just thinking about them dating.
Jason: I'm serious! They were sitting on the sofa watching the movie and Molly had her HEAD ON HIS SHOULDER!! AND THEY WERE HOLDING HANDS FOR GODS SAKE!
Then he opens the front door and says MOLLY! I'm pretty sure Goodbye has been covered by now!
ME: on the floor peeing my pants! LOL It is so funny the way he is acting. I can't keep a straight face through his rants! My god its funny. And Molly is completely clueless! LOL I finally said to her last night - please don't upset Jason. He can't take much more. That of course made her laugh. God help him if he ever sees boyfriend kiss her! He may have a seizure! Apparently keeping it clean for Jason means a sofa cushion between them and a wave goodbye at the door. LOL.

Today is laundry day for me and I have about 8 loads to do so I've decided to watch movies, stitch, and fold laundry all day. Not very exciting I'm afraid, but hopefully I'll get something finished worth showing.

Two Things I've Learned Today

First, in a previous life I must have been Lady Something because it's quite clear that I was not meant for manual labor.

Second, I hate wallpaper! Back in 1996 I went on a wallpaper frenzy and put up borders in every room of my house. I used Laura Ashley paper. My mother warned me back then that "this is real paper Mar, it's not prepasted - hard to put up and harder to come down." Did I listen ... Noooooo. So up it went. A few years ago I removed all the borders on my first floor (living room, dining room, kitchen, family room, and powder room). I know exactly how hard it is to get this paper back off which is why it has taken until today for me to tackle the bedrooms. Poor Ryan, he's 12 with baby paper in his roomAnd Jason who will be 18 in three months still has jets and stripes to live with (and it IS the prepasted kind so I really have no excuse for why I haven't taken this down yet!)And Molly and Kellie are still looking at pink walls with ballerinasI decided to do my paper first since my room didn't have toys and junk to move.Ugh. This paper is taking the paint right off the wall with the paper. Apparently I used some seriously heavy duty paste! In some places CHUNKS of drywall are coming off too!
This happened in the living room and dining room too, but not as bad. I'm making a really nice mess in my room. And I realize that I'm going to have to clean it all up! And I'm going to have to Spackle and sand all of the walls before I can paint. I will be so happy when all the rooms on this floor are finished. I'm just trying to stay focused on the end result, because I hate this part of it. I actually love painting - it's the prep I don't like. I also have to paint my foyer, hall, stairwell, and upstairs hall. I bought the paint yesterday but I'm waiting for this weekend because I don't think it would be such a great idea to get up on that ladder in the stairwell to cut in with no one home. What if I fell - It could be quite awhile before anyone came home to rescue me! With them home they would at least notice when they wanted something to eat that I wasn't responding. They would have to step over my body to get to their rooms right? I hope you are having more fun today than I am.
