Records were meant to be broken

So my sister and I broke our own lunch marathon record yesterday...we had a five hour lunch with way too much tea involved. That's my favorite kind of lunch! We did a little shopping at the mall, too. I went to Crabtree and Evelyn for some of my soap because I was down to my last bar. I love this soap.

I'm worried that they are going to stop selling it. Every time I go in the display is smaller and smaller. Now it's off in a corner on one tiny shelf! I would be very very upset if they stop selling it!

Have you seen this video?YouTube - Bedtime for the Puppies!

This weekend is the big party for my parents so I'm off to the shops for supplies! Have a great weekend. Oh, I'm making crab cakes (Maryland Crab Cakes) from my mom's official recipe. She and my dad grew up in Baltimore so these are the real deal made the way her mom, and her moms mom made them. Just in case you are able to get crab meat and Old Bay seasoning, here is the recipe...

1 pound back fin crab meat (the lump is too lumpy -- trust me on this -- they fall apart)

2 slices of bread broken into small pieces (crusts removed)

1 egg, beaten

1 Tbsp mayonnaise

1 tsp yellow mustard (French's)

1 tsp Old Bay seasoning

Mix all ingredients then add the crab meat. Form into patties (I make about 4 patties for every pound of Crab Meat). Fry them in butter. Not healthy frying in butter I know, but trust me -- these are killer! (probably literally, LOL!)When I asked about the amount of salt pepper and parsley she said "just put a little pepper, salt and parsley in" so just put a little in. She's 82 okay?! :O)

Love This Bread

First...I'm in love with banana nut bread -- if they told me I could have banana nut bread in exchange for one of my kids I would say "okay! take the teenage boy, he'll make you insane in a week but he's worth banana nut bread!" Isn't that a sweet compliment for any mom to give? I thought so too.Banana Nut Bread

1 3/4 cups flour

2/3 cups sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 cup mashed ripe bananas

1/3 cup butter

2 Tbsp milk

2 eggs

1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts)

oven at 350 degrees. In large mixing bowl combine 1 cup of the flour, the sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add mashed bananas, butter, and milk. Beat with electric mixer on low speed till blended, then on high speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and remaining 3/4 cup of flour and beat till blended. Stir in nuts. Pour batter into a greased 8x4x2 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes or till a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan then remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap and store overnight before slicing. Makes 1 loaf. Yum. I even got Jason to take out the garbage with the promise of a slice! Now you know that's good!

So about very happy to be home with his pillow!I wont know the results of the test for a few days. For now he's taking these twice a day...

which are impossible to get him to take without these...

I don't want to know what kind of garbage are in these -- I'm sure they aren't healthy, but he is really hard to get pills in. He hides them in his lips and makes it look like he swallowed, but when I turn around he spits them out. brat. Anyway, these pill pocket things must taste great because he runs to me when he hears me open the pill bottles! Those ginormous pills are chewable and must taste pretty good too because he acts like they are a treat.

I think I was starving poor Howard though. They said bland diet (rice with ground beef) for two days. He eats 6 cups of food a day so they said give him 6 cups of rice a day. I was making 7 cups with 1 pound of beef mixed in a day. He was acting like he was hungry all the time. This morning I gave him a full bowl of the rice and added 1 and 1/2 cups of his food and he ate it in about 2 minutes! Poor dog! Clearly 6 cups of rice isn't the same as 6 cups of dog food!

I don't like the vet who did the colonoscopy. His wife (who is also a vet) is great but she doesn't do this test so I had to deal with him. rrrrr. He's an ass. Little man syndrome I think. He's about my height and I'm only 5'2"...mmmhmm. He has curly (like a 1970's perm) and glasses -- mmmhmmm. Anyway, he doesn't agree with my natural food for pets -- he always want to sell me the crap food they sell. When he gets the results of this test he'll probably want to put Howard on a steroid, but I don't believe in over medicating dogs -- especially steroids that are known to shorten a dogs life (and will probably recommend one of those prescription dog foods). So my sister thinks I should switch him to a raw food diet - then we worked out the cost. SHAAAAZAMMM! Because of his size that's about $81 in dog food a week!!!! A WEEK!!! hmmm, I still don't want to do any steroids or crap food, but that's a little too expensive for my budget. I'm feeding him Innova for Large Breeds and he really likes it. And I'm not about to switch him to one of those nasty prescription dog foods that the vets like to use -- they are full of awful ingredients. You can't tell me that that is better than the food he is currently getting. I'm going to wait and see what the diagnosis is and then I'll talk to my niece -- the dog food guru! :O) -- and see what she recommends...hopefully there is something out there that isn't as expensive as the raw. I just can't swing $324 a month in dog food!

Today is going to be a great day though. I'm meeting my sister for lunch. We have marathon lunches. The restaurant staff hate us. We are usually there about 3 or 4 hours. They usually switch from lunch staff to dinner staff while we are there. And we order so many pots of tea that by the time they serve the last one they don't even try to hide how much they hate us. :o) Oh, I can't wait!

Things are not going my way...

I seem to be in some sort of slump! You know how you get an idea and then you sketch the idea and then you attempt the idea and then you realize that you didn't have a clue what you were doing? That's how I feel about Jump Rope Girl! Boohoo. I really love her. I think she's kind of cute and she does remind me of Miss Kell, but when I finished all the embroidery and all the beading she ended up just kind of sitting there in the middle of the block looking a little lost with her jump rope. So I of course called my trusted advisor...MOOOOOLLLLYYYY! do you like this? "mmmmm, she's not so great is she? Definitely not my favorite." WAAAAAAAAHHH, I KNEW it! I think she's pretty bad too! I can't figure out how to fix her. I tried so many things I finally went with this even though I hate it...
I just didn't want her to be a UFO. But I'm so sad about her...she had such potential in my sketch book! I'm going to move on, but I think after I finish a few other things I may come back to her and just chop off most of the area around her and make it a really small wall hanging. I don't know, I just can't look at her anymore. She upsets me. I do love her eyes though! And those little heart sequins -- I attached them with invisible thread...But those flowers????!! I just couldn't figure out anything else to do! I hate them. I'm going to put her away and come back to her when I've worked it out in my head how to fix her. Poor jump rope girl! I'm a little worried that pool girl...

might be going down the same path! So, moving on...

Friday was pre first day of school hair cut day and a stop at the dairy for some super yummy ice cream...
Ryan doesn't like to have his hair cut by the same gal the rest of us use so he was sporting his mop head look for one more day. Saturday we got his head under control...
He is so confident -- he wasn't worried about Middle School at all! He was like "here I come, let the games begin!" Can you tell I'm a little worried that I'll be getting to know the Principal a little too well this year? hhhhhh, I'm not ready for him to move on to the big grades. He's my one -- ya know what I mean? Mr I'm so gosh darn impressive and hilarious that I can do ANYTHING. Like the back flip off the sofa last month...Darn near killed himself.

So it's the first day of school today. Amazingly, everyone got out the door on time. I was worried with three schools, three bus times and Mark in the mix, but all went well. Jason and Molly leave at 7am, Ryan at 7:30am and Kellie at 8:30am.

Now I'm off to get Howard to the vet for the Colonoscopy. Can I just tell you how scared I am that he wont wake up from the anesthesia? Oh, I'm a mess about this. I wouldn't even be letting them do this if his blood work hadn't been all screwy. But I'm afraid to ignore it. Talk to you soon.

Special Anniversary...

Today is my parents 60th wedding anniversary!

and can I just tell you that they were married in August in BALTIMORE!!! Talk about humidity and it would be about 90 something degrees - and that dress she is wearing weighs a ton! It's thick satin and it has fitted long sleeves with buttons from the elbow to the wrist! She paid $50 for it back in 1948. I'm glad she held on to it. It's a beautiful color and it feels wonderful. I don't know how she lived through that wedding in that heat without air conditioning! When I got married I didn't want to wear it but I took one of the gazillion buttons from it and put it in a little lace pouch with ...

a piece of bread so we would always have food, a piece of wood so we would always have shelter, a penny so we would always have money, a piece of cloth so we would always be warm, the button as something old/borrowed, and I can't remember what I had for something blue...anyway I pinned the little pouch to the underside of the dress just for fun.

Also, my Dad will be 86 years old on August 30th

so I'll be having my family here (24 people when we are all together) to celebrate both events. I have no idea what food to have or where I'm going to get a cake from -- it needs to be special and we really don't have a very good bakery around here. I wish I could call the Ace of Cakes guy (he's right in Baltimore) but last year when we wanted to order one they were booked for at least a year!! hmmm, maybe we should have placed the order for this year then huh?! oh well, I never was one for thinking that far ahead!

I'm home!!! Did you miss me? :O) Vacation was great but it's nice to be home. The trip to the beach was really long...Friday is never a good day to go to the beach...everyone goes to the beach on Friday! We don't all fit in the Expedition when Howard goes so Mark drives the kids and Howard with the bikes and I follow behind them in my little Scion with all the luggage.

So as I'm sitting behind him in traffic (can't see very well in this photo, but it's there -- a big long line of cars... Molly is texting me telling me how "he's really ranting now!" ahhhh, it's such a sacrifice to ride alone....I was able to listen to MY Ipod with MY music...I could listen to this guy as many times as I wanted. The problem was that I ate almost an entire bag of York Peppermint Patties! Yikes. That can't be good for the ol' figure.

And I started to notice how dark it was getting...and then this...

Luckily it stopped before we got to the beach and we were able to get the cars unloaded before the next round hit. And I was able to get Howard into the house before the first crack of lightning. Howard loved the beach this time, by the way. He made lots of friends on our nightly walks. It was a constant ..."Hey Howard!!!" every time we went out the door.

The beach was beautiful! Perfect beach weather.

of course there was the family next to us with the mom who NEVER stopped talking to her kids. Mom's like that make me nuts. Why can't she just let them do their thing?! She spoke at the top of her lungs from the second they arrived until they left and never gave the kids a minute of peace. I heard her say "oh, they are so cranky this week" YEAH! I would be too if I had to listen to her 24 hours a day - they couldn't do anything without her being involved.

We put in a lot of beach time and did some of this...

And a little miniature golf...

It really was a very nice vacation. My birthday was the 19th (43 big ones) and Mark had this waiting for me when we got home...

It's nice to be able to sit down and type on the computer without having to threaten anyone! :O) I'm going to check in on all my favorite blogs and flickr people. ahhhh, it's nice to be home.

Wow it's been so busy at my house I haven't had time to read any of my favorite blogs, much less post to my own! We're trying to fit all of those last minute things into our summer vacation. We leave for the beach on Friday. We're taking Howard again....hhhhh, I hope things go better this time! I really don't want to have to come home early again.

I spoke to the vet yesterday about his blood work results and not only are the original white blood cells up (even higher) but now other types are up as well. So August 25 he has to go in for a colonoscopy. Poor Howard.

maybe they'll let him bring his martini pillow for comfort and feel more secure. He definitely feels more like eating...he gained 20 pounds in a month!

So anyhoo, I've been laying around enjoying my first week of no school (for me). Doin' a little quilting and working on these two (still!!!!).

She still needs her jump rope and beading. And this one needs all the beading finished too.

My mind is all over the place. I have about 4 mini quilts I want to make and it's making me --- not so focused. I got this little summer crib quilt that is in perfect condition from a guy who clearly didn't know what he was selling. He actually said..."I'll sell this to you for $20. It's some kind of little table cloth or something..." yeah, or something!

Look, it even has the handle to one of the feed sacks sewn into it! I love that!

Do You See The Problem...

Do you see the problem here? yeah, I seem to have trouble getting to that second sock in a pair.

But look I'm fixing the problem. I've already started another sock...

wait a second...I don't think this one matches any of them either! :O)

Oh that's what the box should look like...

I bought this box a few years ago as an outside toy box for the kids but it was always falling apart! Every time the kids would lift the lid the sides would collapse. Very frustrating. So yesterday Mark took off from work and said "I'm going to epoxy the sides and see if that fixes it." So he takes it apart and as he is moving it he discovers that I had the base upside down! LOL Huh, look at how the sides LOCK into place and how well made it is!!! I'm such an idiot. :O)

Good Time To Be A Kid

Mark was soooo jealous! He wanted a turn in the worst way, but the box said no adults.

I think they said no adults because they were smart enough to realize just how ridiculous it would be to see a 44 year old man going down the hill on this. Not to mention what would happen to the little pool at the end....oh it would be ugly.

I'm working on this now...

It's a little busy, but I'm thinking I'll like it when it's quilted.

This is my favorite summer breakfast...

I saw this on Martha Stewart's show forever ago. It's a bagel with cream cheese and thinly sliced plum on top -- It's really good with thinly sliced peach too. yum!

Kellie got a new bike today because her old bike never worked right.

I should have taken it back, but I thought it was Mark's fault that it didn't work right --- sshhhhh, I probably shouldn't admit that. Anyway, we got her a new bike today and we took her up to the school so that she would have a large flat parking lot to ride on so that she could get used to it. She was on it maybe 45 seconds and said "hhhhhhh, can I go play on the swings?" WWWWWHAAAAAT? you don't want to ride your NEW bike? "naaaa, I did long enough." OMG! Mark was clearly having an out of body experience over that one -- you should have seen his face! So to maintain the calm I said "aaah, Kell, Daddy just got you this new bike so how about if we take it for another spin around the lot okay?" hhhhh, I guess so. rrrrrrrr - she can be such a pain in the patootie! I'm thinking the old bike may not have been the problem here...she is such a nervous nellie she had a death grip on the handlebars the entire time! oh I'm just so glad we spent the money on a new bike! just so so glad! :O[ rrrrrr.

Has School Started Yet???!

So it's 1:06 am and my kids (Jason and Molly) finally went to bed! I'm suffering from a little too much family time. I'm darn near having panic attacks. If I'm on the phone...who's that? If I'm on line...what are you reading? who is that? who are you emailing? i'm just reading what you are writing. why are you looking at that person's pasta? who are those kids? aaaaaaahhhhhhh I'm starting to lose my mind!!! I took all four of them with me this morning to buy their school supplies ($250!!!!!) I hate school supply shopping. I had to get it finished though because it's August and you know what that means...they need to get rid of the school supplies long before the first day of school to set up the Christmas decorations! They already have the Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff out AND on sale! Oh, speaking of shopping...I went to the grocery store again this past Sunday and took Mark with me. I like to live on the edge...Anyway, we were in the 15 items express lane again and guess what???! The woman in front of us had 26 items!!!! Mark counted -- LOL! So he looks at me and says "do you see what I see?" I was already laughing! He says "is there no justice in this world? where is the express lane monitor? why isn't this person being accosted? can you imagine what this would have done to my good friend the wacko? she would not stand for this injustice! she would demand action! by god she would not tolerate this extra 5 minutes in the check out line -- no sir! she would be seizing on the floor at this appalling sight!" Can I just tell you I was wiping the tears and trying not to pee from the laughing! And Mark thought Jason should take his gangsta looking photo down off his myspace (it really is the dumbest looking photo I've ever seen) and put up something more appropriate like this...

Oh he may look mild mannered, but he's quite the grocery store hell raiser! LOL.
