Making Progress

My leg is much better today thank you. The swelling has gone down and I've almost stopped limping (although, I may bring it back out when hubby's around :o) And I did get all four bedrooms emptied out and this is what my living room looks like...

which led to this concoction...

After 2 I needed to go to bed to sleep it off. :o) because my dear husband makes them without measurements. They were really really strong (but good, too good)

And Ms Kitty -- Ms Kitty is not pleased with all the furniture moving and yelling going on in her house...

I made Chicken Cacciatore for dinner with these Parmesan Smashed Potatoes

They are by far the best mashed potatoes I have ever had. Not low calorie by any stretch, but awesome. They even reheated well in the microwave. Ask Howard, he and I had them for lunch today.

The guys got the carpet down in all the rooms, hall and stairs today! It looks really pretty.

I chose Butter Cream because I wanted a neutral color that would go with any color paint. I just hope it stays Butter Cream and doesn't become Creamy Mud. Howard was completely freaked about all the banging going on. He had me pinned at the sink while I did the pots.

I was talking to a friend about how it drives me crazy that he surfs the counters...she laughed and said wait till he's full grown and can surf the back of the kitchen counters and the top of the fridge! I took this photo today of Howard to show her how big he is getting. This gate is 36 inches tall and he is a good 4 to 6 inches taller than it. He usually rests his chin on the top of it.

So, now all that is left are the windows and the painting. I'm so happy that we are almost finished. I took the kids to Home Depot tonight to pick out their paint colors for their rooms. Molly and Kellie picked SEA LIFE, Ryan picked ORANGE BURST and Jason is undecided, but leaning toward two shades of a blue gray.

I tried and tried to tell them that these colors were a little bold and perhaps they would like the lighter shade on the cards???? NO! Something tells me that I will be painting these two rooms again very soon. (after several coats of primer!)

And Now This

I went out with the dogs to check out the new fence...big mistake. Howard in all of his brainless enthusiasm slammed me and my knee went out! I've had a weak knee since 8Th grade so this is nothing new, but oh the splendor of it all when it happens...the spots, the vision going in and out, the sick to your stomach, the breaking out in a cold sweat. Oh it's good times. So I slide down onto the step trying to keep it together. Crawl into the house and onto the sofa. Yell, and yell for Jason to bring me ice and a glass of water. No sympathy there. But Howard, Howard was all about sympathy. First he completely slimmed me with a lick from chin to hair line then he crawled up on top of me and fell asleep. Once I felt better it was actually funny and I snuggled right back. But there were a few minutes there when Howard's life was in jeopardy. The last time this happened was 16 and half years ago when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant and our lab while running for a Frisbee didn't notice me standing there and slammed me. Mmmm, went into labor and had to stay on bed rest for 6 weeks. My knee and dogs just don't get along. And, in case you forgot...I still have to move everything out of all four bedrooms before Monday (8am Monday!).

Nervous Breakdowns For EVERYONE!

Well, the weather has been very cooperative so they are just about finished with the fence. Unfortunately, The dogs will not go to the bathroom on leashes. They are definitely loosing their minds. Howard...Howard is the worst. He wants to go out, he needs to go out, we put him on the leash and go out and his system just will not cooperate! The men are cleaning up their stuff so we just kept telling Howard "just a few more minutes buddy. Hang in there -- it's almost finished" well all of a sudden Kellie screams (yes...SCREAMS) MOOOOMMMMMMM! OOOOHHHH MY GOOOOOODDDDD! HOWARD JUST POOPED IN THE KITCHEN! OH NO HE JUST POOPED AGAINNNNNN! Well you can imagine how fast two days worth of poop can stink. Imagine a cow pooping in the kitchen twice because that is what it's like with a Great Dane. I'm gagging, spraying Oust like nobodies business. It was BAAADDD! And I was on it within seconds. He better not ever do that when I'm not home. Good grief we would have to condemn the site. Poor baby...

Trying To Stitch

I finally got around to starting a new wall quilt. I have been wanting to make a bird nest in wool and today I finally cut it all out. I can't decide if I want baby birds or eggs in the nest. I sat down to stitch but Howard decided that he needed to snuggle. Every time I tried to take a stitch he got in the way. I finally gave up...because God forbid Howard should be inconvenienced!

And this is the mess that I have made in my dining room!

This is actually the mess after I straightened up a little bit! Yes, it was actually worse and has been for about TWO WEEKS! I've been anxious to start several projects and have been buying supplies and pulling everything out but then not doing anything with the stuff. Dear Husband is so excited about it all too! Well, he was excited when he saw me stacking because he thought I was cleaning up...no, just regrouping.

This past Saturday I went to an antique show. All by myself...:o) I saw a great box but it was $495 and considering it was only about 8" x 6" x 4" I didn't think Mark would understand it's value. So I kept walking. I did get some cool postcards and calling cards, and a pretty piece of lace that I will mount on some fabric and hang on the wall. I also bought some buttons from a woman who could quite possibly be the nastiest antique dealer in Maryland. I swear she is there every time and every time she is a total ^&$#@. I just don't get it. You would think she would be happy when someone comes to her with a purchase to be made, cash in hand, and a smile...but no, she glares, she snatches the cash, and she mumbles something about thanks which sounds more like drop dead. I usually don't purchase from her because of her attitude, but my two button women weren't there so I had no choice.

Oh, and I bought this little doll:

I looked at her, walked away because I didn't want to pay $25 for her. looked at every other booth and then on my way out swung back to look at her again. I guess the man recognized me because he literally JUMPED out of his chair and came over to give me the big sales pitch ... Do you collect dolls? NO. Are you looking for a gift? NO. Isn't she great? Mmm, she's cool. Okay, says I ... I'm going to think about it. HHHHHHHH, says he. I'll give her to you for $21 (as I'm leaving his booth) I turn back and say (with a smile) mmmm, I don't know. She's cool, but I don't know if I want her that badly. He glares at me and says "sheesh, it's that tough huh? Alright, $20!" and storms off. Okay, is it just me or are these antique dealers on crack today? Then, here comes the wife (I guess they are tag teaming me or something) she says "Did you want her for $20?" in a nice voice with a smile so I say okay. I still don't think she's worth $20, but I think the smiling antique dealer shocked me so much that I became confused and made the purchase.
I must say, I have been a little over run with sales men this past week. We bought a new car a week ago. I don't have to tell you how annoying that was. Then Monday we had my brother-in-law here about putting in new windows (he has a home improvement business). Then Wednesday we had a guy here about a new fence because honestly, Howard could step over our 4 foot fence and that makes me nervous. And on Thursday we had a guy here about carpet. I'm sales pitched out! So, tomorrow the fence guys will be here and guess what -- it's going to rain -- it's going to start tomorrow and end early Saturday. I called the company to see if they were rescheduling ... no, we'll start and see how far we get. Mmmmm, that will be great since I will be left with no fence and dogs all weekend -- in the rain. I can't wait to stand out in the rain while they refuse to go to the bathroom on a leash. Can't wait.
Monday the carpet guys will be here so we basically have to empty 4 bedrooms of everything (including the closets) except for the beds and the empty dressers. I am so loving that idea....won't the living room look grand with every one's $@!% everywhere? Can't wait. I have no idea when the windows are coming, but he thought it would be next week or the week after. It will look so nice when it's all finished though. I have to paint the entire upstairs next. Ugh. I love the finished look, but I sure hate doing the job.

Punchneedle Bunny

I just finished doing the punchneedle embroidery on this little bunny picture! It was so much fun to do. It had been about 5 years since I took a class to learn how to do this so a little practice was needed before I started working on it. I just have to trim the backing and then attach it to a base. I can't wait to start a new one! The pattern is called "Welcome Spring" by Charlotte Dudney. It's really sunny hear today but it's only 49 degrees and the wind is crazy! I think I'll just hang out here this afternoon and sketch out something to punchneedle. I hope you have a great day, too.

New Ring and Shopping

Hey, I made a ring on Saturday. It's a shell button. I clipped off the shank and jewelry glued it to a ring base. How easy is that.

On Saturday Mark and I went over to our favorite shop in town and got some stuff for spring. I like these rabbits, but Mark thinks they are too "Dark" looking. We also don't agree that they can stay out all spring and summer. Rabbits aren't just Easter are they? I'm going back today to get the other stuff that I wanted. I didn't want to send Mark into sticker shock so I decided to have him witness the first purchase and then go back for the kill without him! :o)

I like these rabbits. So she has a basket of eggs and is holding an egg. It can still stay all summer too, right? Do you see the little yellow flower garland in the back? I put little twinkle lights in it. It's very cheery. Did I tell you how much I love twinkle lights? We have them up all year in garlands like this. We just change the garland for each season.

I also got this wreath for my dinning room. And this matching garland...

It was going to run across the back of the hutch in the dinning room with some twinkle lights (because you can never have too many twinkle lights) but it was way way too short so I put it up here on the chandelier instead. I always decorate the chandelier for Thanksgiving and Christmas because I love how festive it is, but now I think I will do this for spring and summer too. So I'll have to get a different one for the hutch when I go back today. They had one that was more spring flowers, it might be too much for this room, but I have a hutch in my family room that I like to have a garland on the top of, so I'm thinking it would be perfect for that -- with twinkle lights of course! :o).

My little tree (the one I showed you in a January post) I don't know how to do a link to it sorry...isn't finished yet. I was switching it from winter/valentines to spring/Easter but it's looking a little mishmashed. So, more to purchase from the shop today. Won't Mark be pleased?

What's The Problem?

So I was painting instead of cleaning and doing laundry...So the painted fabric is hanging from a string across the back of my husbands chair at the table and it's been there since Tuesday night...and so what if every time he tries to sit down or stand up he gets tangled in it...I don't see a problem.

But, for the sake of my marriage I think now that they are dry I can take them down. Of course, I do have more that I want to paint this weekend :o) Unfortunately, I did promise to do all the cleaning today and tomorrow first...why did I think making that promise was a good idea? OH...I know why...it was made before the coffee kicked in. Had I been conscious at the time, I would have held off on that idea until I had time to think it through. But, I panicked and said the first thing to pop into my head! Thank God I didn't say I would do the laundry too! Sheesh, I really could have screwed up my day. Plus, I haven't worked on school stuff since LAST Thursday! I totally blew off class Tuesday night so now I have hours and hours of work to do today so that I don't look like a total idiot tonight in class! Hhhh, no fun for me today. Work work work. Of course it's 9:23am the kitchen is a wreck and am I working? Hell no. I'm sitting here totally goofing off at the computer. But you see I'm meditating...preparing myself so that I do my best work. Yes, I'm getting centered for the task ahead. :o)

The Best Cookies Ever and Some Knitting, Too!

Well first, Norman is holding his own so that's good. Second, I made some Oatmeal, Raisin, Chocolate chip cookies yesterday that are the best cookies in the world and super easy -- you don't even need a mixer. Just a big bowl and a spoon. I don't know where the recipe came from, my Mom has been making them for as long as I can remember.
Anyway, I thought you might like the recipe...

Oatmeal Cookies

1 Cup Raisins
1/2 C BOILING Water
Put raisins in a bowl with the boiling water and set aside

Add each of the following in order -- stirring well after each item is added

1C Melter Butter (or margarine)

3/4 C Brown Sugar

3/4 C Sugar

2 Eggs

1/2 tsp Salt

1 tsp Baking Soda

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Raisins with Water

2 C Quick Oatmeal

2 C Flour

2 C Choc. Chips

1/2 C Chopped Walnuts if desired

(my kids don't like nuts so I leave them out, but they are great with/without nuts)

Drop by tsp onto greased cookie sheet and bake about 9 minutes at 375 degrees till a light golden. Depending on what cookie sheet I'm using, mine take anywhere from 9 - 11 minutes.
I hope you enjoy them.
I did a little knitting yesterday, too.

I started this blanket a few years ago and just put it aside. I love the colors and the pattern (super easy) but I hate how long it takes to knit. I've only finished 16 inches so I have another 25 inches to go. ugh. But I do love the color it's NORO Silk Garden #87.
